The pineapple was given its English name because it resembled a pine cone. In earlier times the pineapple was the prized possession to have on one’s dinner table. Even George Washington was said to have grown his own pineapples at his own. It is still unknown when the first pineapple was found or planted in Hawaii however it is now Hawaii’s signature fruit. Now Honolulu is home to the Dole Plantation which began as a simple fruit stand in 1950.
